Scopes can be confusing initially. However, if there’s a color card on the screen, understanding the scopes becomes easier.
Waveform

The waveform scope reads information horizontally. Everything in the vertical axis is displayed at the same horizontal position, regardless of the image’s vertical position. This example is the Luma version.
Other common waveforms available are “RGB Overlay, RGB Parade and Chroma.
The Vectorscope and RGB Overlay
The vector scope can also display the hue. It’s challenging to determine if the color is pointing at the target using the vectorscope alone. However, when using the waveform RGB Overlay scope, matching the closest two Red, Green, and Blue lines together indicates the correct color.
Below is a sample of each color.
Red

Yellow

Green

Cyan

Blue

Magenta

The Vectorscope Saturation
Once you calibrated the HUE, you can focus on saturation.
Comparing readings between the vectorscope and the chroma waveform scope helps understand the length of vector lines related to saturation.
